Welcome to the SMCC Ballet Academy! Classes are taught by our esteemed ballerina, Jessica Nicholson. After receiving her ballet training at the Akhmedova Ballet Academy in Silver Spring, MD, she went on to compete. She has placed at the Tanzolymp Dance Competition in Germany, the Youth America Grand Prix and went on to perform at the New York City Finals. Jessica has danced on tour with the Ballet Magnificat's events company as well as going on an international dance tour to Cuba and Mexico. From 2019 to current, Jessica signed on to be a full-time dancer with the Alabama Ballet.
Alongside Jessica’s dancing career, she has also taught at many different dance schools in the Birmingham area. They include, The Alabama Ballet, Birmingham Dance Theatre, Westwood Ballet, and the Alabama Dance Academy. It was at Westwood Ballet where she discovered her passion to teach and instill the arts into young students, but with a different purpose and mindset: one that is fixed on Christ. In 2022, Jessica started the SMCC Ballet Academy. Her desire is to pass on her love for dance in a positive environment that encourages both her student’s pursuit of dance as well as their pursuit of Christ.
