My Story
Hi! My name is Lauren Spigner and I am the Nursery Director at Shades Mountain Community Church. I grew up as a 4th generation resident of Sebring, a small town in central Florida. Our family was actively involved in our local church where I heard the gospel preached often. At the age of 6 I understood my sin and need for a savior in the presence of a great God. I knew Jesus was the only solution to my problem and I trusted in Him for my eternal security and responded in obedience with baptism. At a young age God began a work of sanctification that has continued throughout my life because of His great faithfulness.
I attended Samford University, which moved a small town Florida girl to the big city of Birmingham! I loved my new city and after graduating with a Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication, I knew I wanted to stay put. I began working at Lifeline Children’s Service’s in the International Adoption Ministry and served there for 9 years. During that time, I met Andrew, my husband and best friend and we married in 2018. A common love for Christ and His church was one of the things that attracted us to each other from the start. Andrew grew up at SMCC and has been on staff serving his church since 2017. I get to serve beside him in the High School and Young Adult ministries and in 2023 I was thrilled to join the staff of SMCC serving our nursery ministry as well!
The Lord has shown his lovingkindness to our family as He led us to seminary at the West Institute in Laramie, Wy in 2019, opened doors to serve in full time ministry roles at SMCC, through years of infertility and now to expecting our first child in 2024! The faithful ministry of local churches has been a constant in our lives and church has always been my favorite place to be!

Role
I have the joy and honor of serving as the Nursery Director at Shades Mountain Community Church! As Director my role is to come alongside parents of children birth to 5 years old to provide safe, loving and gospel-centered ministry to our youngest church attenders. The nursery ministry, comprised of over 100 caregivers, teaches children a weekly Bible curriculum in coordination with our Children’s Ministry, provides childcare during adult ministry gatherings, and plans opportunities for parent discipleship through conferences, play dates and more.
Hobbies
I love to cook and bake, especially for our college students and young adults at church! I love dreaming about (but never quite accomplishing) home improvement projects and on any given week, you may run into me at one of Birmingham’s many great coffee shops!
Favorite Scripture
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
