Hi! My name is Gina Cody, and it is my privilege to serve as Pastor Rick’s Executive Assistant. I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, an only child with loving Christian parents and we were always involved at our church. The Lord opened my eyes and saved me at the age of 9 when I understood I was a sinner who needed a Savior. I remember kneeling before my Heavenly Father one day, repenting of my sin, believing and thanking God for loving me so much that he sent Jesus to die on the cross for me.
In 1972, I married my childhood sweetheart. In 1983, we moved to Birmingham for Gary to attend Cumberland School of Law. I began attending a weekly Bible Study led by a special woman who discipled me for many years. The Lord used this time to grow my faith and teach me His Truths that would prepare and equip me for an unimaginable trial to come. In 2009, after 37 years of marriage, the love of my life passed away unexpectedly. I wish I had space to share his story . . . it's a wonderful story!! A powerful testimony of God’s love, mercy, rescue, redemption, and grace; feel free to ask me about it sometime. Although my life has been forever changed, I can proclaim with full confidence that God’s grace is sufficient for anything. I am grateful for a lifetime of precious memories and the blessing of two sons who have given me two daughters-in-love and four GRANDchildren! Michael is a missionary serving in South Africa with Maegan and their children, Noah, Aldyn and Callan. James is a gifted musician and Instructor at Belmont University, residing in Franklin, Tennessee with Nicole and their daughter, Maddie.
The year following my husband’s death, former Pastor Harry Walls invited me to interview for the position being vacated by his assistant. I said yes and now, I have the privilege of continuing in the same role for Pastor Rick. What an honor to serve the church I have dearly loved for 40 years. I am so thankful for the ministry that God has given me at SMCC.
