Hi! My name is Andrew Spigner, and I am the High School and Young Adult Pastor here at SMCC. I was born in Alabaster, AL and was blessed to grow up in a family that loved the Lord and brought me to Shades Mountain Community Church any time the doors were open! The Lord used the many lessons of faithful Sunday School teachers at SMCC to grab my heart and reveal to me that I was a sinner in need of a Savior. At a young age I repented of my sin and was granted faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus as payment for my redemption. It was the beginning of my walk with Christ and my process of sanctification.
I attended Troy University from 2009-2013 to receive my undergrad in Speech Communication and Public Relations, and returned to Birmingham where I began to serve in youth ministry at Shades. It was then my heart for full time ministry started growing. While helping disciple students, I too was being discipled by the leaders that I was serving alongside. In 2017 I joined the staff of SMCC serving as Assistant Director of Camp Adventure, building a sports ministry called All-Stars and overseeing grounds and facilities. In 2018, I married the love of my life, Lauren, and shortly after, we moved to Laramie, WY to attend The West Institute and complete a Master of Theological Studies. It was through this program the Lord instilled in me a philosophy of ministry that continues to guide me daily.
I never imagined that full time ministry would be where the Lord would have me, but I am so glad it is! I love the students and young adults I get to serve and the opportunity to shepherd alongside men I admire.

Hobbies:
This is going to sound like a cop-out answer, but I genuinely love experiencing new things with friends. A few of those experiences have stuck around and I would now call them my own hobbies. Mountain biking is probably the most prevalent one, but I also enjoy seeing a good movie in theaters and smoking meats.
Role:
I have the privilege of providing leadership to both our High School ministry and its leaders and our Young Adult ministry and its leaders. Along with our amazing leadership teams, I provide guidance and direction to our groups, care for and equip our leaders, teach at our various meeting times, provide counseling for those within our ministries, and plan special events for these ministries. I also lead our All-Star Kids Sports Ministry and its coaches and serve as an assistant administrator for SMCC’s summer camp, Camp Adventure.
Favorite Scripture:
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5
