My name is Tom Jones, and I serve as a lay Elder at SMCC. I was born here in Birmingham and grew up in the Christian & Missionary Alliance (CMA) denomination. I was saved at an early age. I understood that I was a sinner and was destined for hell. I accepted Jesus as my Lord, but did not begin learning about my faith in earnest until my early 20s.  I began to read more material from strong Christian leaders and thinkers (RC Sproul, AW Tozer, John Owen, etc), and my understanding of my faith grew.

I have been a member at SMCC since 2007, and met my wife Theresa via a Bible study here.  We have been married since 2013, and reside in Hueytown.  Lay elder Steve Meeks is a close, dear friend and mentor in the faith.

After earning degrees from Samford University and UAB, I have worked in the financial services and regulatory fields for my entire career, with a focus in banking and accounting.  My wife is an Occupational Therapist.  We enjoy traveling to different locations in the US and spending time with our families.

Hobbies:

I enjoy reading, hiking, electronics, history, and artwork (glasswork and paintings primarily).  My wife and I enjoy traveling as well.

Role:

I have had the privilege to serve as a lay Elder for the last four years, and assist Steve Meeks in leading a Growth Group on Friday nights, as well as assisting Kevin Lee with new member classes and activities.

Favorite Scripture:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
